The Chemeketa Community College Music Department is excited to introduce a new music series, Night of a Thousand Lights, this 2023-24 season. This series will feature small ensembles in an intimate setting, surrounded by more than a thousand lights and candles.

The inaugural 2023-24 season will feature former Miss America and classical vocalist, Katie Harman, followed by a holiday special, featuring Music Inspired by "A Charlie Brown Christmas", performed by the Nate Olson Trio, the exciting Aviara String Trio, and the spectacular Crown City String Quartet.

Soprano Katie Harman is an accomplished opera singer and former Miss Oregon (2001) and Miss America (2002). As a musician, empowerment advocate, artist, seeker and doer, Katie strives to stimulate encouragement, creativity, and a sense of excitement for the beauty that surrounds us - within ourselves, each other, and in the world.

Sheer passion for chamber music drives the Aviara Trio. Comprised of violinist Robert Schumitzky, cellist Erin Breene, and pianist Ines Irawati, this exciting ensemble has made an indelible impression on the musical landscape of Southern California for the past decade. Most recently, the trio was honored to perform at the Hollywood Bowl on Celebrate LA, Los Angeles Philharmonic's 100-year anniversary celebration.

Crown City String Quartet

The Crown City String Quartet has been the premier group featured in the High Desert Chamber Music Concert Series since its beginning and has been an audience favorite since their debut. Founded in 2007, their performances have been praised as "sublime" and "simply moving and spectacular".

Chemeketa Community College's Music Program is pleased to be working with the Chemeketa Foundation to bring world-class artists to our campus to benefit our students and our community and to promote the growth of music education at Chemeketa.

Each concert will begin at 7:30pm (with the exception of the Crown City Quartet on May 19th– this concert will start at 5:00pm) and will be held in the Chemeketa Auditorium in Building 6 on the beautiful Salem Campus. Free parking is available in the Purple Lot and concessions will be available before each concert, as well as at intermission for those concerts that include one.

Due to the outstanding reputations of these ensembles, we expect many of these concerts to sell out in advance. We encourage you to consider becoming a season pass holder to guarantee yourself a seat. Season subscribers will also receive priority seating selection.
